Connecting with Salinger
There are a few connections I can make about this article. The article talked about the Japanese writers of 17-syllable haiku. In several classes like: ILS, Biology, and English classes we have had to write haikus. The article also stated about how Salinger was the hermit crab of American letters. Just like how JD Salinger never emerged much, I never speak up much either. Usually my sisters do all the talking, so I just stay in my "shell" and keep everything to myself. Salinger was a person who didn't like much publicity, and I am the same way. I usually try not to stick out so much. I could connect this article with Holden because the article mentions the word "phonies" and that was Holden's main word. The article also talked about Pencey Prep and thats where Holden went to school. Reading this article has helped me connect to Salinger better because I believe it is easier to write about things you have experienced, and thats what Salinger usually wrote about.
